Frequently Asked Questions

Parking

We recommend you arrive at least 15 minutes early to search for parking. There are parking lots behind most the buildings on Figueroa, some are metered, some are free for 2 hours. Parking on Figueroa is 1 hour, which is not enough time to attend class without the risk of a parking ticket. You may also find parking, free or metered on the neighborhood streets.

Please be mindful of one another as you search for parking, you may end up practicing beside the person who is looking for parking at the same time as you <3

Cancelling or rescheduling

If you cancel within 24 hours you may incur a fee, or forfeit a class from your class package. If circumstances are truly beyond your control, we will happily accommodate your rescheduling needs. Please call or text first at (213) 585-8451‬ and if you don’t get a hold of us instantly, then email us at kinshipyoga@gmail.com for less urgent support.

Lost and found

We have several places for lost and found items. Give the desk a clear description of what you’re looking for and we will help you locate it!

If your items are left for an extended period of time, we eventually donate everything in a big batch to a local thrift store.

Late policy - soft start times

If you are running late, we do not guarantee a spot in class for you during busy class times. We operate on a first come, first serve basis. You are welcome to join class within a 15 minute window of the start time. We realize traffic and parking can affect your ability to arrive on time, and we aim to support all clients in practice. We have many classes throughout the day, and you are welcome to practice in the following session. Enjoy tea in the lobby while you wait!

Class pass

Classpass is a third party membership and booking app. If you are a member of classpass, visiting Kinship, we aim to support your practice to the best of our ability. There may be booking or app-related issues that are out of our scope and control. We ask you contact the support team through classpass first when this occurs.

As a courtesy, if you sign up for a class and do not attend, we will sign you in so you do not receive an additional fee from classpass.

Wait list

When you sign up for the waitlist, please text or call us right away! We might be able to add you to the class. And if you don’t hear back from us, you come to class as if you are signed in and we will do our best to make space for you.

We hold approximately 4 spots for wait-listers/walk-ins, and they are offered on a first come, first serve basis.

Holding spot or buying for friend (not sharing package)

You may purchase or hold a spot for another client, this process is a bit extensive and can be reviewed by clicking here. Scroll down to “Step 1” for guidance.

Class temperatures

For Hot classes on average the room is heated to 98-100 degrees. This will fluctuate slightly based on the weather. We use far-infrared heating panels, not HVAC. It is more gentle and healing. In Studio A the right side of the room near the windows is kept cooler, the left side of the room is kept a bit more hot. Each teacher will adjust the heat throughout class to maintain a safe and mindful balance. We prioritize your health and encourage resting in child’s pose or a seated meditation if you feel challenged by the heat momentarily. Please be aware, daily personal choices will influence your internal temperature and perception of the heat.

We also offer many non-heated classes that are room temperature and super comfy! Yinship, Align & Flow, Nourish Gentle Yoga, Beginner’s Yoga, Community Yoga, Yin & Healing, Yin & Meridians, and majority of our workshops are not heated!

Beginner’s Yoga

We offer Beginner’s Yoga for clients who would like a more gentle start to the practice. Class days/times vary. Currently Beginner’s Yoga is offered on Tuesdays at 12pm, Thursdays at 7pm and Saturdays at 8:30am. We also recommend exploring Breathe & Stretch, Yinship, and Align & Flow classes. If you are reasonably comfortable with following instructions, listening to your own body, and/or have a regular physical practice of another kind, you may attend any class on our schedule. If you do, we recommend:

  1. Notify the teacher or the front desk that you are new to yoga.

  2. Place your mat in the middle row of the room, at least 2-3 spaces away from the wall. This way you can see another client for reference no matter which direction you face.

  3. Hydrate throughout the hours of the day before class and use electrolytes. This aids in cellular hydration and will prevent issues during a hot practice.

  4. Choose to sit, or take child’s pose to rest and breathe on your mat when/if you feel dizzy, overwhelmed, light-headed, or agitated.

Why don’t you have Advanced classes or levels?

At kinship, we are focused on all levels, diverse classes. Our idea of a ‘Kinship Level 2 class’ is your self-directed life practice. How do you practice what you learn on the mat, out into the world?

Tracking time away vs freezing membership

For our 3 month and 6 month Auto-Pay clients only, we happily offer credit days for time away due to travel or illness. We do not pause membership payments, rather we ask you to track your time away and email us at kinshipyoga@gmail.com to have the time you missed credited to your account.

We’re not able to offer this to monthly unlimited, seasonal specials or new student special packages.

Sold out classes

When classes are sold out, sign up for the waitlist! You may also attend class to try and get a walk-in space. We reserve a small amount of space for walk-ins. So you might get lucky!

Rental Equipment

  • Yes we rent Mats for $4 and Towels for $3

  • If you rent a combo (mat and towel) we discount the total cost to $6

  • Water and small complementary sweat towels provided to use during class, just toss into our laundry bin after practice.

Lockers and locks

We have reclaimed lockers in the large restroom areas at the studio. You may use these during the class you attend. Locks can be borrowed for free at the front desk. They will be in a small clear bin and you are welcome to help yourself. Our locks are pre-set words, which are usually lined up with the small notch ready-to-go when you arrive.

Methods of Payment

We accept cash, credit and debit cards. We do not have apply-pay currently, but the mind-body software will be rolling out a new device to accommodate that “soon.” We keep reaching out to ask them… We are looking forward to integrating it!

Are kids welcome?

No. While we love kids and wish to support the youth in a budding yoga practice, we’re not the best setting for kids yoga at this time.

Are pets allowed to come to the studio?

We love pets but due to the high traffic at the studio and allergy concerns for our wide community, we cannot allow animals at the yoga studio. Please don’t bring your pets to any part of our facilities.
